2022 MAZDA MX-30 Preview

Ever thought about going for a spin in an all-electric model? With each passing year, all-electric powertrains are becoming more prevalent, and Mazda has taken notice. In 2022, Mazda is prepared to debut their first electric vehicle, the Mazda MX-30. The crossover will only be available in California for the 2022 model year.

What can drivers near Gastonia, Charlotte, and Lincolnton expect when the Mazda MX-30 reaches their town? Traits such as classic Mazda styling and refinement remain. And in 2023, a plug-in hybrid EV option will also be hitting the market.

While there’s still only so much known about the upcoming Mazda MX-30, our Mazda of Gastonia team thought we’d preview this exciting vehicle considering all the questions we receive about it.

Expected Size of the MAZDA MX-30

The Mazda MX-30 is expected to slot into the Mazda lineup around the Mazda CX-3 and the Mazda CX-30 in terms of size. So, it’ll debut as a versatile crossover with two rows of seats and a second row that folds flat. If you’re a commuter or have a young family and want to move into the electric automotive world, the Mazda MX-30 is going to make for a savvy and practical choice.

Expected Powertrain of the MAZDA MX-30

Electric powertrains require high levels of sophistication to not only reach the necessary efficiency standards, but also to deliver necessary power. It’s not entirely certain how Mazda will go about this intricate setup, but some facts have been released.

First, the crossover will come in front-wheel drive, without the option for all-wheel drive. The electric motor onboard is predicted to produce 144 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid version that will debut after the Mazda MX-30 may supplement the electric battery with a rotary gasoline engine.

The 35.5-kWh battery pack is small yet efficient. It can be charged using standard AC power or a more modern alternative such as a DC fast charger.

Interior Elegance and Refinement

No matter the powertrain, Mazda imbues each of their models with a sophisticated and luxurious interior. We expect the Mazda MX-30 will be no different.

Soft touch materials and intricate designs will be found along the dashboard and seats. Based on the roominess of the Mazda CX-3 and the Mazda CX-30, the Mazda MX-30 should offer ample legroom and headroom even for those over 6 feet.

Driving dynamics will likely mimic other Mazda models, too, meaning plenty of composure around town or when driving on the highway. And thanks to the all-electric powertrain, acceleration should be instantaneous!
